The following excursions can be undertaken on foot, as they are in the immediate vicinity of Rateče.


ZELENCI – Source of the Sava River

Zelenci is a natural reserve near Rateče and a tourist attraction. It is a unique and picturesque natural reserve known for its stunning emerald green lake and lush wetlands. Located in the Julian Alps, it offers a peaceful and serene environment for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. PLANICA Nordic Center

Planica Nordic Center in Slovenia is a world-renowned center for ski flying, ski jumping, and cross-country skiing. It is one of the largest venues globally, hosting international competitions in ski flying and cross-country skiing. Visitors can explore the visitor center to learn about the history of these sports. Skiing and accommodations are available in nearby towns. During the summer, the center offers various attractions, including playgrounds, zip lines, wind tunnels, and summer cross-country skiing. It also serves as a starting point for excursions into the Tamar Valley and further into the high mountains. Planica is less than 3 km from Rateče.


TROMEJA (1508 meters)

Tromeja, also known as "Dreiländereck" in German, is the point where the borders of Austria, Italy, and Slovenia meet. It holds cultural significance, marking the convergence of three countries. At this spot, markers and monuments symbolize the border crossings. Located above Rateče, it offers a beautiful view of the Slovenian Alps and Austrian lakes. The area is known for its stunning alpine environment, making it a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts, offering picturesque landscapes, meadows, and forests. It serves as a starting point for various hiking trails leading to nearby peaks, providing panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. The trails are suitable for hikers of different experience levels.

Cyclists can explore the beautiful alpine terrain and cross borders into Italy and Slovenia. The area offers cycling routes and mountain biking opportunities. In winter, there is a well-maintained ski resort accessible from the Austrian side, and a sledding route leading towards Rateče. The hiking trail to Tromeja is just 100 meters from our apartments.
